USB ports on dock are blocked when Endpoint Encryption Device Control Policy is applied on HP ProBook 6470b & HP Elitebook 2170p.

Issue/Introduction

Currently, when the HP 6740b and 2170p are docked, the Symantec Endpoint Encryption (SEE) Device Control (DC) client does not correctly identify the USB ports and blocks them as unclassified devices. All USB ports are normally ID'd correctly on the machine itself and function normally when the machine is not docked.

Resolution

To work around this, the following entries must be added to the whitelist manually using the "Free Text Identification" option as shown in the attached screenshot:

  • USB\VID_0424&PID_5434&REV_3082
  • iusb3\class_09&subclass_00&prot_01
  • iusb3\class_09&subclass_00&prot_03
 
 
 

These were taken from Device Manager for the USB 2.0 and 3.0 controllers and should resolve the issue for these models.
