Issue/Introduction

Message based standard’s display target type “ ESM Agent Machines ( deprecated )” cannot be changed to “ ESM Agent”  target type in Control Compliance Suite (CCS) 11.0

Cause

“ ESM Agent Machines ( deprecated )” target type is displayed for the message based standards because of product design, and is not a defect

Resolution

1. Post CCS 11.0 release, the display name of the pre-shipped target types is no longer read from CCS ADAM. The display names are now read from a DLL ( Dynamic-Link-Library) file in CCS’s backend architecture, which is as per the product design
2. We cannot change the display name for message based standard’s target type from “ESM Agent Machines ( deprecated )” to “ ESM Agent Machines” as this change would affect the product deployments at global level, and we as Symantec intend to keep the ESM related target types in CCS message based standards as “ ESM Agent Machines ( deprecated )”. This is because the ESM Agent asset type was introduced in pre CCS 11.0 versions. This asset type was used for getting data from ESM installations. However in CCS 11.0, we introduced the concept of Common Asset in which the same asset can be used for CCS as well as CCS-ESM (message based) standards.  Hence we have marked the ESM agent specific asset types and target types as deprecated to encourage users to use the common asset type in CCS 11.0.
