It´s needed to configure for example ICAP for Symantec Protection for Sharepoint Services (SPSS) or RPC for NetApp Filer. In the Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) Console - Configuration - Protocol the settings needs to be entered.

In regards to ICAP the Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) is seen as the ICAP client. And the connector e.g SPSS in the case of Sharepoint is the ICAP server. No configuration needs to be done in SPE as the request is handled by SPSS and the scanner is added in the SPSS.

In regards to RPC it´s the opposite. Symantec Protection Engine is seen as the RPC server. And the connector e.g vscan in the case of NetApp filer is seen as the RPC client. It is then needed to add the IP of the NetApp Filer where the CIFS share resides into the SPE Console RPC client list. To do so perform the following:
1. Log on to the SPE Console: https://hostname:8004
2. Browse to Configuration - Protocol - RPC Configuration - RPC client list
3. Add the IP of RPC client e.g the NetApp CIFS Share.
4. Apply/Save the settings and restart the "Symantec Protection Engine" service in services.msc.

Once the RPC client list setting has applied the NetApp Filer should automatically detect the Scan Engine known as the vscan scanner.
