Issue/Introduction

After installing SCSP 5.2.9 MP5 (5.2.9.905) on Window XP and 2003 servers, the COM & LPT ports are no longer working. A yellow exclamation mark is shown next to the COM & LPT ports in the Device Manager.

A yellow exclamation mark is shown next to the COM & LPT ports in the Device Manager and looking at the properties of the devices - the following error message is shown:

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

Cause

This is caused by the SCSP device filter drivers that were added during the install of SCSP and the devicefilter is conflicting with the COM & LPT drivers during boot.

Resolution

The solution is to run the DeviceFilterInstall utility with the -r parameter, here is an example;

C:\temp\>DeviceFilterInstall.exe -r
Filter sisipsdevicefilter
Removed sisipsdevicefilter
ACPI\PNP0401\4&323CF337&0
Filter sisipsdevicefilter
Filter serenum
Removed sisipsdevicefilter
ACPI\PNP0501\1
Filter sisipsdevicefilter
Filter serenum
Removed sisipsdevicefilter
ACPI\PNP0501\2

etc...

This utility is attached to this KB.

Applies To
