Unable to view the Control Center for Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) in Internet Explorer after update to SMG 10.5.2

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading the Symantec Messaging Gateway Control Center to version 10.5.2 or later it does not display in Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.

Cause

The version of JRE that the SMG Control Center software uses delivers web pages with HTTPS TLS 1.2. This was updated in SMG 10.5.2 to keep up with compliance and guard against potential vulnerability.

Resolution

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click on Tools and select Internet Options.

3. Click on the Advanced Tab.

4. Check the box for TLS 1.2 under the Security section.

5. Click Apply or OK.

Please note that Internet Explorer 8 does not have the TLS 1.2 option available when installed on Windows XP as IE depends on the underlying OS to provide TLS support. As an alternative, you may use another supported browser as using these products on unsupported versions of the OS may produce unexpected results.
