Issue/Introduction

What is Symantec announcing?
As part of a product rationalization program to consolidate our product portfolio and solve larger customer jobs, we have decided to discontinue the Symantec Endpoint Encryption – Device Control (SEE-DC) product. The End of Life process will begin on May 5th, 2014 with limited support available up until November 7th, 2016.

Resolution

Will there be a replacement product?
There will be no direct replacement of SEE-DC. Instead, you will be directed towards our Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) solution, which features integrated device control capabilities.

For more details on how Symantec Endpoint Protection handles this function see article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH216098.

Please see the table at the end of this document to better understand how support for SEE-DC will be handled going forward.

What am I entitled to?
All existing SEE-DC customers will have their licenses moved to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 at no charge on a 1:1 license ratio. Symantec Endpoint Protection delivers powerful device and application control, in addition to multiple layers of protection at the endpoint. Going beyond traditional anti-virus, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 includes network threat protection, reputation and behavioral technologies designed to defend against todays more sophisticated attacks. Due to the significantly broader capabilities offered, SEE-DC customers who transition may have higher annual maintenance renewal fees.

For customers who already own Symantec Endpoint Protection, your SEE-DC licenses will now be additional Symantec Endpoint Protection licenses which can be renewed or stopped at renewal time.

Will Microsoft Windows 8 support be added to SEE-DC?
There are no plans to add support for Windows 8 to SEE-DC. However, Symantec Endpoint Protection supports Windows 8 from version 12.1 RU2 onwards and Windows 8.1 from version 12.1 RU4 onwards.

I licensed Symantec Endpoint Encryption Media Protection that bundles both SEE-DC and Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage. What will be my replacement products?
SEE-DC will be replaced by Symantec Endpoint Protection. There is no product change for the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage half of the bundle. At renewal, you will see two line items, one for Symantec Endpoint Protection and one for Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage.

I already have another company’s endpoint protection product, do I have to install all the features of Symantec Endpoint Protection if I just want Device Control?
No, you can choose to install a Symantec Endpoint Protection package that just contains the application and device control component if you wish. If you choose to add features at a later date, you can do that simply and easily from the Symantec Endpoint Protection management console.

For more information, please see article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH90936

Will there be a migration path from SEE-DC to Symantec Endpoint Protection?
No, the products are completely separate and Symantec Endpoint Protection will have to be implemented separately.

Can I import SEE-DC policies or reporting into Symantec Endpoint Protection?
No, policies and reports will have to be rebuilt in Symantec Endpoint Protection after migration.
