Issue/Introduction

Java-related warning messages are displayed when you launch the Symantec Protection Engine console.

The messages:

The certificate is not valid and cannot be used to verify the identity of this Website.

and

Running unsigned applications like this will be blocked in a future release because it is potentially unsafe and a security risk.

are displayed when you launch the Symantec Protection Engine console.

Cause

  The warning message is displayed because of to the self-signed certificate generated by Symantec Protection Engine.

Resolution

 If you import the same self-signed certificate (Certificate.pem) that is present in installation directory of Symantec Protection Engine into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store, then the warning message does not appear.

Note: This solution is applicable to Internet Explorer only.

To do this:

On Symantec Protection Engine (version 7.5.0.34 onward):

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to Tools > Internet Options.
  3. Click the Content tab.
  4. Click Certificates.
  5. In the Certificates dialoq box, click Import.
    The Certificates Import Wizard is launched.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Browse and select the Certificate.pem file from the Symantec Protection Engine installation directory.
  8. Select the certificate store as Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
  9. Click Finish.
