VMware ThinApp executables take significantly longer to load from remote SMB shares after installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 RU4 (SEP).
In order to scan the ThinApp executable before it launches, SEP downloads the ThinApp executable. If the ThinApp executable has a large file size, the time required to perform this scan can be several seconds or several minutes.
This issue may be worked around by changing the ThinApp executable's Primary Data Container from the executable itself to a separate .DAT file. This change decreases the size of the executable file which, in turn, decreases the time it takes for SEP to download and scan the executable file.
