How to hide the Symantec QuickMenu in SEP for Macintosh 12.1 RU4 and newer.

NOTE: These instructions apply to SEP for Macintosh 12.1 RU4 and newer. See otherwise How to hide the Symantec Endpoint Protection QuickMenu in the Macintosh client via policy

The Symantec QuickMenu:

Cause

On an unmanaged SEP for Macintosh client, display of the Symantec QuickMenu is controlled via OS X System Preferences, Symantec QuickMenu. These OS X Preference settings are grayed out on a managed client, though.

Resolution

On an unmanaged SEP for Macintosh client, display of the Symantec QuickMenu is controlled via OS X System Preferences, Symantec QuickMenu and [x] Enable Symanec QuickMenu, and is a per-user setting. Unchecking that box will hide the QuickMenu for that user.

On an managed SEP client, display of the QuickMenu is controlled via policy set in the SEPM (Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager):

  • Select Clients Tab->Policies->Location-specific Settings

  • Select "Server Control" for User Interface Control Settings

  • Select Customize and uncheck "Display the notification area icon" option. This will hide the Symantec QuickMenu for all users of that Macintosh.

    You will need to logoff and back onto the Macintosh to see the interface change.
