How to configure Proxy Settings

Issue/Introduction

If there is a proxy in the environment it will be necessary to configure the proxy settings in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (SEP SBE) cloud management console, this document will provide instructions for this process.

Resolution

Configuring Proxy Settings in the Hosted Endpoint Portal

Note: Make sure to double-check the settings used by the proxy prior to configuring these options in the portal, if the settings are incorrect and clients receive them, they will loose communication and it will be necessary to manually configure proxy settings on each individual client one at a time in order to restore communications.

  1. Log in to the SEP SBE cloud management console
  2. Click on the Policies tab in the navigation ribbon at the top of the page
  3. This will take you to the System policies window by default, click on the Default System Policy
  4. As default policies are not editable, click on the Save a Copy link at the top of the page
  5. Rename the policy to a name of your choice and provide a description (optional)
  6. Check the Enable Proxy box and fill in your proxy settings
    • Note: You will get a popup warning you about loosing connectivity if the settings you enter are incorrect
    • Note: If your proxy requires authentication make sure to check the Authenticated box and enter the necessary credentials
  7. In the Groups section check the box next to all of the groups you want to apply the policy to
  8. Click Save & Apply

 

Configuring Proxy Settings During Installation

Using a Redistributable Package

During Redistributable Package Creation proxy settings can be configured when creating a redistributable package so that every machine installed using that package will use the proxy settings supplied.

  1. Using the Download a Redistributable Package installation option, download the Symantec Package Creator
  2. Run SymantecPackageCreator.exe
  3. Click the Proxy Settings button
  4. Check the Enable Proxy checkbox
  5. Fill in the proxy information, if the proxy requires authentication, make sure to check the Authenticated box and fill in the credentials
  6. Click Save
  7. Click Begin, this will create a SymRedistributable.exe installer which will install using the proxy information provided

 

During Installation

When installing using the Install Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition On This Computer or Send Download Invites methods, proxy settings can be configured individualy for situations where a particular machine has a proxy configuration that differs from the rest of the environment.

  1. Run the SymantecExtractor.exe
  2. Click Next on the Welcome page
  3. Click the Advanced button
  4. Check Enable Proxy and fill out the proxy information
  5. If the proxy requires authentication, check the Authenticated checkbox and fill in the required credentials
  6. Click Save
  7. Click Install to begin the installation

 

Manually Configuring Proxy Settings on an Existing Client

If proxy settings are entered incorrectly and clients loose connectivity, the correct settings will need to be applied individually on each computer, to do this:

  1. Open the client interface
  2. Click on the settings button
  3. Click on Proxy Settings
  4. Check the Override Proxy Settings and Enable Proxy boxes and fill out the proxy information
  5. Click Apply then Close
