After upgrading a server to SMP 7.5, or after a fresh installation of SMP 7.5, the outlying computers with the Symantec Management Agent already installed on them fail to upgrade. The following error / warning (excerpt) is found in the logs:


The following corresponding warning related to it should also be found in the NS server logs:

* Registration: Disabled Legacy Agent Communication Mode blocks registration of legacy agents.

* Registration process failed
Altiris.NS.Exceptions.NSComException (Altiris.NS): Registration request blocked.
   at Altiris.NS.AgentManagement.Enrollment.EnrollmentManager.ProcessEnrollmentPolicies(XmlNode resourceNode, Boolean& bConfirmedAcceptance, String& sAgentResponceXml)

COM Exception errcode: 0x80077006


As per the warning the Legacy Agent Communication policy is turned off.


1. Open the NS web Console and go to "Settings > All Settings > Notification Server > Notification Server Settings"

2. Turn on the Legacy Agent Communication policy.
