You log into the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) console. You have set your SEPM to time out after a specified period of time. However, the console instead hangs or does not respond. You notice that this happens only on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Everything works as expected for earlier versions of Windows.
No error displays. The console window becomes unresponsive.
This unresponsive behavior is caused by a known issue between Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 and the JRE, which is a component of the SEPM console.
To work around this issue, perform one of the following tasks, depending on how you log on to the SEPM:
For the local console, change a system property in the file sesm.bat, which is located on the SEPM server.
On the SEPM, browse to SEPM_Install_Directory\bin\
Where SEPM_Install is the directory in which you have installed the SEPM. By default, this directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on 64-bit systems, and C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on 32-bit systems.
Right click on sesm.bat, and then click Edit.
Add the following string:
Save the file, and then close it.
For the java-based remote console, log on to SEPM instead with the web-based console.
