Issue/Introduction

If a Symantec PGP Desktop user sends an encrypted message to a recipient whose key uses the PGP-EML encoding format, the message will be encrypted with the PGP/MIME encoding format.

Users of, for example, the Mail Encryptor app on iOS devices with a PGP-EML format key will notice that they receive messages containing two attachments, indicating a PGP/MIME format message:

  1. Version.txt
  2. Message.pgp

No error message is displayed.

Cause

The ability to encrypt using the PGP-EML encoding format was first introduced in Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.

Resolution

Upgrade to Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3 or above.

Users of, for example, the Mail Encryptor app on iOS devices with a PGP-EML format key will notice that they receive messages containing one attachment, indicating a PGP-EML format message:

  1. Message.pgp

Applies To

Symantec PGP Desktop 10.x using the MAPI protocol, ie, in an Outlook / Exchange environment.
