After logging in to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM),  the home page Security Status shows attention needed for "Content Download Problems", when the local site is configured to download content from an internal LiveUpdate Administration (LUA) server.

To view additional details about the warning:

  1. Click on the Home tab
  2. In the "Security Status" pane click on "View Details"
  3. In the new window that opens locate the first section "Content Category Download Problems"
  4. This section will list the detailed information regarding the problem for example:

Problem: Latest Content not available
Details: The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server does not have the latest content from the internal LiveUpdate Server
Possible Solutions: Check your network connections to see if your SEPM server can access your internal LiveUpdate Server.

The SEPMs in the Local Site are configured to download from an internal LiveUpdate (LUA) server.   The LUA server policy had only AntiVirus/AntiSpyware definitions checked.  Additional content for Reputation, Submission Control Signatures, and Extended File Attributes and Signatures were not checked, but are actually required to prevent this warning.

This is working as designed.  The following content needs to be enabled for download on the LUA server in order for the SEPM(s) to be able to download the content.

  • Virus and Spyware Definition
  • Submission Control Signatures
  • Reputation Setting
  • Extended File Attributes and Signatures
