Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to Symantec Encryption Management Server 3.3 MP2 or 3.3 MP3 some Consumer Policy settings may not replicate to other cluster members when you update policy settings on one cluster member.  This has been observed with the following Consumer Policy settings but may affect others:

  • Key Settings / Allow users to receive encrypted email
  • Mobile / Messaging & Keys / Enable Mobile Protection
  • Mobile / Messaging & Keys / Default Encoding Format
  • Mobile / iOS File Share / Prompt for passcode

Cause

This appears to be much more likely to occur if, prior to the upgrade, there were duplicate policy settings in your environment.

Resolution

Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.  This issue is currently being considered by Symantec Corporation to be addressed in a forthcoming version or Maintenance Pack of the product.  Please be sure to refer back to this document periodically as any changes to the status of the issue will be reflected here.

The following is a known temporary workaround for the issue until the version/maintenance pack is released:

Option 1

  1. Perform the PUP upgrade.
  2. Suppose you wish to activate the Enable Mobile Protection setting on a policy named Policy1.  If you find out that this setting is not replicating properly, take a copy of Policy1 by adding a new policy called, eg, Policy1Copy and cloning it from Policy1.
  3. Load Policy1 and click the button Restore to Factory Defaults.  This will reset all policy settings to the factory default settings.
  4. Using Policy1Copy as a reference, configure the settings you require for Policy1.
  5. You will find that Policy1's settings replicate properly.
  6. In due course you can delete Policy1Copy.

Option 2

  1. Perform the PUP upgrade.
  2. Suppose you wish to activate the Enable Mobile Protection setting on a policy named iOSpolicy.  Create a new policy named iOSpolicy cloned from the Default policy.
  3. Using a suitable existing policy as a reference, configure the settings you require for iOSPolicy.
  4. You will find that iOSPolicy's settings replicate properly.
