Issue/Introduction

On Windows Mobile PDA's, smartphones, and other devices, it is possible for the installation of Symantec Mobile Security 7.2 (SMS 7.2) to complete without user interaction.  Uninstallation can also be completed without the usual screens displayed on the GUI.

All that is required is for a certain text file to be placed in the Windows Mobile device's root directory.

Resolution

Silent Installation

If a file named "sysilent.txt" is present in the root directory of the device, the installation will be silent. Create a file of that name and then launch the install from the .cab as per usual installations.

If the installation was silent, a file named "quiet.txt" will be created in the root directory of the device. If the installation was not silent, a file named "verbose.txt" will be created in the root directory of the device.  These files are not install logs but simple indications of which option was chosen. They may safely be removed, if desired.

Silent Uninstallation
If a file named "sysilentun.txt" is present in the root directory of the device, the uninstallation will be silent.
