During the Symantec Management Agent upgrade process, it is sometimes observed that the upgrade will complete; however, the management agent service is marked for deletion or is not present at all.
No errors are detected. The AEXNSC.log will indicate the upgrade is successful.
During the agent upgrade process, the existing agent service is to be removed and then the new service is created. While removing the existing agent service, Windows may be blocked from removing the service immediately.
This issue is addressed in the ITMS 7.1 SP2 MP1 Rollup Version 5. See release notes at HOWTO81832.
CHANGES MADE:
Added new install action EnsureServiceDeletion, which is executed at uninstall after service unregistration. This action will check that service deleted and is not in waiting for delete state. If service is waiting for delete, action will wait up to 10 minutes for service deletion, and then close all mmc consoles since they are often locks the services. After that, if service is still locked, install will be failed.
