"Awaiting Symantec Configuration" message when configuring the Symantec Secure Email app that was downloaded from Symantec App Center

Issue/Introduction

After installing and loading the Symantec Secure Email app, the following message occurs, and the app is unuseable:

   

One of the following messages will occur, depending on the version of Secure Email:

  • Awaiting Symantec Configuration
  • This application can be configured only through the Symantec AppCenter Agent
  • Awaiting configuration from App Center
  • Awaiting MDM Configuration

  

Cause

This behavior is by-design, as the Secure Email app requires a configuration to be received from a Symantec App Center server.

  

Resolution

 

In order for Secure Email to be functional, perform the following steps:

  1. Identify your organization's Symantec App Center server or tenant
      
  2. Install the App Center App, and enroll the device to the App Center server
      
  3. On the App Center server, ensure that a properly configured Device Policy is targeted to the end-user. This Device Policy is to have the Secure Email Settings defined
      
  4. Once the device has Secure Email Settings applied to it, the following must occur depending on the mobile device type:

iOS
Once loaded, the Secure Email app will prompt the user for credentials. Once the credentials are entered and validated, Secure Email will be configured

 

Android
A device notification will occur stating App Center, Email Setup Required. This notification will be listed in the device's Notifications bar, and must be selected in order to proceed. Once the notification is selected, the Secure Email app will prompt the user for credentials. Once the credentials are entered and validated, Secure Email will be configured
