Issue/Introduction

Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) releases prior to v10.0.2 performed antivirus cleaning within the mail server process. As the antivirus rule sets have expanded it has caused the MTA process to increase in size.

Resolution

To prevent this expansion of the antivirus rulesets from interfering with MTA operation, the antivirus scanning and cleaning operations have been moved to a standalone process in SMG v10.0.2 and later releases. This change requires no administrative action and will improve product stability.
