SWG download of Antivirus definitions times out when connecting through upstream F-Secure Internet Gatekeeper proxy with AV function

Issue/Introduction

On the Updates page of the Symantec Web Gateway (SWG) User Interface (UI), the version of the antivirus rules appears older than 1 week. SWG attempts to download Antivirus definitions times out when connecting through upstream F-Secure proxy with AV function.

Cause

The connection timeout value for downloading virus definitions is 30 seconds in SWG version 5.2.0 and earlier.

 

Resolution

Upgrade the Software of SWG appliance to version 5.2.1. If you are not able to upgrade immediately, please open a Remote Assistance case, then contact Symantec Technical Support.


To open a Remote Assistance case

  1. In the SWG UI, navigate to Administration> Configuration.
  2. On the Maintenance tab, to the right of "Remote Assistance", click "Click Here" button.

 


Applies To

  • Installed SWG software version is version 5.0.3.8 through 5.2.0.361.
  • In the SWG UI, on Administration> Configuration> Proxy, "Use proxy for Web Gateway secure communication (SSL) with Symantec Threat Center" is checked, and
  • Proxy Server Address and Proxy Port are configured to point to an F-Secure Internet Gatekeeper with HTTP proxy.
