Specific users are constantly prompted for credentials when using Symantec Management Console on remote computers

Issue/Introduction

Whenever a specific user attempts to access the console and switches between the pages on remote machines he is immediately prompted for credentials. When clicking Cancel button he is able to access the page but if he enters his credentials, a 401 Unauthorized error is returned.

When accessing the console with the same user directly from the SMP server, he is not prompted for credentials when switching between pages.

In the network trace there would be recurring HTTP requests to AltirisNSConsole.cab file and 401 Unauthorized responses back from SMP server.

Cause

Permissions for AltirisNSConsole.cab file are not granted to specific users and attempt to download the console plugin is being blocked.

 

Resolution

Add necessary file permissions to the users.
