Desktop Email Encryption

PIV Cards are designed to perform specific functions and certain PIV cards are supported by PGP Whole Disk Encryption.  PIV cards can also be used to perform basic functionality such as NetShare authentication, however PGP Messaging is not not designed to work with these PIV cards and currently do not support this functionality.

The PGP Whole Disk Encryption product fully supports the following PIV cards:

• Oberthur ID-One Cosmo V5.2D personal identity verification cards using ActivClient version 6.1 client software.

• Giesecke and Devrient [email protected] Expert 3.2 personal identity verification cards using ActivClient version 6.1client software.

Although these two PIV cards are designed to work with PGP Whole Disk Encryption and do support pre-boot authentication, these PIV cards cannot be used to support PGP Messaging for email encryption where the encryption\decryption keys are held on the PIV card itself.

A Feature Request was submitted to support this functionality.  Support has worked directly with Product Management and has determined this feature will not be included at this time.  Please subscribe to this article for any updates.  To be added to this Feature Request, please contact support who will track specific customer requests therein.
