Issue/Introduction

Changing the default content purging options for LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA), and understanding settings related to content purging.

Resolution

LUA purge settings can be configured for the Manage Updates folder and the Distribution Centers (DCs). The Manage Updates folder contains the local repository of all downloaded content on the LUA server. This is the folder used to house updates which are then distributed to the Distribution Centers to which LUA is configured to provide content.

The current version of LUA is configured to purge the Manage Updates folder daily, keeping 3 revisions of content by default, and to purge the Distribution Centers daily.

Configuring purge settings for the Manage Updates folder

LUA can be configured to purge its local content repository based on the number of revisions you wish to keep, or the age of the files you wish to keep. Some content is released as frequently as 3 times a day, so configuring the content based on the age of the content can result in the LUA server keeping many more revisions than expected.

  1. Log on to the LUA Web interface and click Configure>Preferences.
  2. Locate the Purge updates in Manage Updates folder section.
  3. Configure how frequently purge cycles are run in the How often sub section.
  4. Configure what content to purge in the Rule sub section.
  5. Click Update to save your changes.

Configuring purge settings for the Distribution Centers

The purge rules configured for the Manage Updates folder do no affect the behavior of the Distribution Center purge routine. LUA will purge all but the latest content revision distributed.

  1. Log on to the LUA Web interface and click Configure>Preferences.
  2. Locate the Purge updates in Distribution Centers section.
  3. Configure how frequently purge cycles are run in the How often sub section.
  4. Click Update to save your changes.
