You recieve the error "You have exceeded the licensed number of devices that can be scanned, or you are not authorized to scan this device range."
If the error message: "You have exceeded the licensed number of devices that can be scanned, or you are not authorized to scan this device range." is displayed, it usually means that the user has gone beyond the scope of their license.
This might occur when a user creates a site that has large device ranges, intending to scan only some of the IPs within the range. The problem stems from the fact that the CCS VM license is based on the number of IPs in the Site and not on how many of those IPs are active. To fix the problem, the user will need to break down their Sites to keep the IP count under the maximum, or purchase a Discovery License.
Review how many IP addresses are listed in all of your sites. CCS VM counts all addresses, not just those for hosts found to be "live," against the IP address limit in your license. This is especially important to remember when defining IP address ranges as scan targets. To reduce the number of counted assets, remove all data related to old assets in the Web interface.
If you have reduced your total number of assets but continue to receive the "You have exceeded the licensed number of devices" error, performing database maintenance may resolve the issue. For more information, see the solution How do I perform database maintenance?
