"Error 2343 specified path is empty" during SEP client installation results in failed client installation or upgrade

Issue/Introduction

During installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client, the following error message is received: " Error 2343 specified path is empty "

Per the SEP_INST.Log:

Error 2343 specified path is empty

Cause

A setting is missing in specific registry keys 

Resolution

Check the following registry keys :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders 

 

The values for these registry key must be as shown above.
