The antivirus definitions and other content for the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) and not being updated.  LiveUpdate displays an error that there is a low disk space condition, though ample room may be available.

A pop-up message reads:

Warning: LiveUpdate has encountered a low disk space condition on one or more hard disks on your system.

LiveUpdate is unable to retrieve and install all available updates -- This can leave your system vulnerable.

It is recommended that you free up disk space on your system so that LiveUpdate can provide you with the best protection.

Do you want to launch Windows Disk Cleanup now?

If there is in fact ample room, uninstall the Windows LiveUpdate client from the SEPM and install the latest available, as per the documents referenced below.

In other cases, the issue has been resolved with the following steps:

  • Click Start and then go to Run
  • In the box type "msconfig"  (no quotation marks)
  • Click the "startup" tab at the top right
  • Unchecked the "ALuNotify" startup item
  • Click "Apply"
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Restart" to restart the computer for it to take effect.
When the system is restarted, it will warn that you have changed settings and want to take you to the same screen.  Check or uncheck the box for it not to tell you in the future.
