The SMSMSE Administration Console shows a virus definitions date that is older than one or two days.
To view the virus definition date used by SMSMSE perform the following steps:
1. Open the SMSMSE Administration Console.
2. On the Home tab the label Virus Definition Date is the date of the virus definitions used by SMSMSE
The most common reasons that the virus definitions are out of date are:
1. SMSMSE version is older than 6.5.7
With older versions, if two different processes attempt to do virus definition copy at the same time they cause interference. The copy process does not succeed.
2. Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 Beta is installed
SEP 12 beta uses a specific LiveUpdate server. This LiveUpdate server only contains virus definitions for SEP 12 and no other product does not contain the SMSMSE virus definition files
3. Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange is not registered correctly with LiveUpdate server
When the user's AppData setting is not correct, errors are reported while installing SMSMSE or registering with LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate server will also report errors.
4. LiveUpdate reports errors in Log.LiveUpdate
Solution
1. Upgrade to SMSMSE 6.5.7 or later.
