Enterprise Security Manager v10 AIX agents showing the name 'loopback' as the FQDN in the ESM agent's properties. This FQDN value of "loopback" would be imported into Control Compliance Suite when that asset is imported into the CCS asset system.
What seems to be happening is that during the ESM agent registration – it tries to determine its own hostname and/or FQDN of the agent. It seems that on some AIX systems this process doesn’t work well and eventually the program decides to report back “loopback” as the hostname.
The Symantec engineering team has added additional logic to that internal process of the agent registration and it should now never come back with “loopback” as the hostname.
The fix is applied by manually replacing two files on the affected AIX agents. Once these files are replaced – delete the ESM agent from the ESM manager and then re-register the AIX agent – it should no longer show up in the ESM console with “loopback”. Once that’s done – import that asset again in CCS – it should now show the proper name.
