Issue/Introduction

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry.

Before you modify the registry, make sure to create back up of the registry and ensure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem may occur.



How can I resolve "Error 1605: retrieving version string from installed CA Directory (32)64-bit" OR "Error 1608: retrieving version string from installed CA Directory (32)64-bit" returned by CA Directory installer.

64-bit version of CA Directory:

On Windows if the CA Directory installer gives "Error '1605 or 1608' retrieving version string from installed CA Directory 64-bit" you will need follow the steps provided below.

Open a command prompt and type "regedit" and hit enter to open the registry editor.

Navigate to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes". 

Under the above key select "6989C335CC17DF442A91D1EB18FF458F". 

Right-click the above key and click "Export" and make a backup of the registry key. 

Delete the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes\6989C335CC17DF442A91D1EB18FF458F" registry key.

Reboot the machine.

Re-run the CA Directory installer.

 

32-bit version of CA Directory:

On Windows if the CA Directory installer gives "Error '1605 or 1608' retrieving version string from installed CA Directory 32-bit" you will need follow the steps provided below.

Open a command prompt and type "regedit" and hit enter to open the registry editor.

Navigate to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes". 

Under the above key select "FDAACF7C49F89A64986B396A0EEC62D9". 

Right-click the above key and click "Export" and make a backup of the registry key. 

Delete the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes\FDAACF7C49F89A64986B396A0EEC62D9" registry key.

Reboot the machine.

Re-run the CA Directory installer.
