Issue/Introduction

We are going to upgrade our system from IDMS 14.0/14.1 to 19.0. Can we  upgrade directly from 14.1?

Is there a road map for this process? Any information/list of jobs from previous upgrades that need to be run for this task to be accomplished.

Environment

Release: 19.0
Component: IDMS/DB

Resolution

You can upgrade directly from IDMS 14.0/14.1 to 19.0.

Before starting the upgrade refer to the IDMS 19.0 Product Letter SI12186.

When upgrading from releases prior to 18.5 you must take more steps to complete the upgrade, see Upgrade Considerations.

Acquire the Product

Download the IDMS/DB Version 19.0 S1912 - Product Package from https://support.broadcom.com to a USS directory where you can unzip it in OMVS with "pax -rvf DVD0000000001941.pax.Z"  then run the UNZIPJCL.

The pax command will create directory AGJJ0G0 like this:

EUID=0 /u/userid/IDMS/

Type Filename

_ Dir .

_ Dir ..

_ Dir AGJJ0G0

_ File DVD0000000001941.pax.Z

EUID=0 /u/userid/IDMS/AGJJ0G0/

Type Filename

_ Dir .

_ Dir ..

_ File AREADME

_ File CA.DATASET.XML

_ File CA.DEPLOYMENT.XML

_ File CA.EULA.TXT

_ File CA.PACKAGE.XML

_ File CA.README.TXT

_ File CA.SMPEINSTALL.XML

_ File CA.SMPESETUP.XML

_ File GIMPAF.XML

_ File GIMPAF.XSL

_ Dir SMPPTFIN

_ Dir SMPRELF

_ File S0001.MF20.MSPS.IDMS.R190GA0.AGJJ0G0.SAMPJCL.pax.Z

_ File UNZIPJCL

The UNZIPJCL will create the SAMPJCL, relfiles etc.

Create the CAISAG Library

To allocate and populate a CAISAG library, customize and submit the CFIG#JCL member in your CAGJSRC library, which contains an IEBCOPY job. To customize this job, use the AGJSEDIT macro that you use to customize the SMP/E jobs. If you performed the SMP/E installation using CSM, the AGJSEDIT edit macro does not exist. You need to customize the job manually, and supply a prefix for the configuration data sets to be allocated on the SET statement. This job allocates a PDS with the low-level qualifiers CAISAG.CONFIG and populates it by copying four members from CAGJSRC.

Customizing the CAISAG Library Members

The CAISAG library contains the following members, which you must customize for your site:

CAISAG -- JCL to run the CA Specify and Generate (CAISAG) program.

JOBCARD -- JOB statement used as CAISAG input

SETUP -- Member for /*SETUP cards if you need them.

VARBLIST -- Member containing CAISAG variables

In the VARBLIST you will select:

GJUPGRAD = YES Specify 'YES' to do an upgrade configuration.

* Specify 'NO' to do a complete base configuration.

* This variable must be NO for an add-on.

and..

FROM#REL = 14.1 FROM WHICH RELEASE ARE YOU UPGRADING?

* (12.0, 14.0, 14.1, 15.0, 16.0, 17.0, 18.0 or 18.5)

Run the CAISAG member in your CAISAG.CONFIG dataset and it will create the configuration jobs to run in order. The SMP/E install jobs will be in SAMPJCL. Do you have CSM? It would make all this much easier.
