Error: "No updateable version of Norton Antivirus was found" when attempting to update Scan Engine 5.X using Intelligent Updater i32

Issue/Introduction

Upon attempting to update virus definitions in Scan Engine 5.X using the intelligent updater from http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=cs

The following error is displayed:

 

and virus definitions do not update.

Symantec is aware of this issue. Please subscribe to this document to be notified when an update is available for this issue.

 Workaround

1. Open the Registry editor (Start -> Run, Regedit).
2. Create the following registry key as a String value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\InstalledApps\AVENGEDEFS

3. Set the registry key with the following value:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs


4. In Windows Explorer create the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs

5. Open a command prompt (Start -> Run, CMD) and type the following commands:

cd C:\Program Files\Symantec\Scan Engine\Definitions\AntiVirus
setup-iu.bat enable


6. Download and run the i32 from http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=cs

Within 10 minutes, Scan Engine will process the new definition set.
