Unable to take a Remote Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) Console

Remote SEPM Console receives Unexpected server error [0x10010000]

Java 7 is not supported with SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1.

Note: Java7 is supported from SEP 12.1 RU2 onwards.

Java 7 is not supported with SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1.

Here are the steps with Java 1.6 update 31 to access SEPM via Java console:

  1. Make sure you have installed the latest version of Java 1.6 update 31 installed on the SEPM server.
  2. Open a web browser and go to: http://localhost:9090/
  3. Once the site comes up click the "DOWNLOAD & LOG IN" link (the upper right hand button).  This should launch the remote console.
  4. If you get a Java security error that says "Block potentially unsafe components from being run?" click "No".

  1. Edit the shortcut which is pointing to javaws.exe in Windows directory.
  2. Explicitly set it to point to 32-bit JRE 6 location instead. Note: This requires Java 6 and Java 7 both installed on the same computer. If your JRE is in a non-standard path, adjust as needed.
  3. Make sure the 32-bit Java SE Runtime Environment 6 installed (latest version recommended).
  4. If not installed, get the latest from in their archives.

For a 64-bit OS, change the JRE to the following:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaws.exe" -localfile ... (the rest of the shortcut)

For a 32-bit OS, change the JRE to the following:

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaws.exe" -localfile ... (the rest of the shortcut)

Note: The "C:\Program Files\" path doesn't work on a 64-bit machine, even if the file exists.

Note: Java7 is supported from SEP 12.1 RU2 onwards.
