Troubleshooting disk and RAID issues on a Symantec Web Gateway 8490 appliance

You are seeing a message indicating RAID or Disk issues in the system log and are receiving Email alerts.

"ALERT: Hard Drive Failure - RAID5 condition is DEGRADED"


An Amber LED on the front of the appliance indicates a Disk or RAID issue. If this is not present it could indicate a software issue with the RAID monitoring system or potentially an issue with the OS  installation.


Please contact Symantec Support and provide them with this document number in order to further troubleshoot this issue.

This issue has been seen to occur on new model 8490 appliances with H700 PERC RAID controllers, but may also occur on older model 8490's with 6/i PERC RAID controllers.
