Spam definitions are not updating in Symantec Messaging Gateway

Issue/Introduction

It is noticed in the Control Center under System Status the Spam definitions are older than 1 hour and there is a increase in spam mails received. It has been confirmed with Telnet  based communication to the Symantec antispam Aztec servers is fine.

In System Status the Spam definitions are older than 1 hour.
 

Cause

Temporary update issue in the SMG OS.
 

Resolution

Reboot the affected scanner in the following way:
1. In the Control Center - Administration - Hosts - Shutdown - Select the affected scanner - Reboot - press Reboot to confirm
or
in the Command Line Interface - type reboot - confirm with typing yes
2. After the reboot of the scanner log back in to the Control Center
3. Wait about 5 mintues, the spam definitions should now be updated
