Interface alerts for admin down from interface_traffic probe

Issue/Introduction

Our monitoring  team receives a number of alarms (interface_traffic probe) for devices that are admin down and not operationally down.  

We only want to get alarms for devices that are operationally down.

How can we disable alarms for devices that are admin down?

Environment

UIM 8.5.1interface_traffic 5.46

Resolution

The interface_traffic probe can be configured to alarm on both "operationally down" and / or "admin down".

To see the configuration options, use the IM console to open the configuration for the 'interface_traffic' probe.

Select one of the devices in the profile, and one of the interfaces.  

Open the interface properties as shown in Figure 1.  There is an option to "Ignore Operational State when admin state is not as expected".

In the example above, given that option "Ignore operational state" is checked, here is what to expect:

Oper Down	Admin Down	Alarm
Yes	Yes	admin down informational alarm
No	Yes	admin down informational alarm
Yes	No	Oper down major alarm

 

 

 

Additional Information

Interface_traffic  - This probe is no longer supported as of October 1, 2017. This probe is replaced by the snmpcollector probe.
