Disable firewall in Windows server 2008 R2 64 bit by setting in SEPM

Issue/Introduction

Windows firewall is not disabled automatically by Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1, and this blocks communication between SEPM and SEP.When user manually disable Windows firewall,communication between SEP and SEPM returns.

SEP has no green dot at the tray and is showing offline both at SEPM console and SEP client interface.

Cause

SEP only disabled Windows firewall one time and when PC restart, Windows firewall is back

Resolution

This is about setting in SEPM firewall policy.

  1. Log in SEPM,in Policies console
  2. Click Firewall and Edit the policy
  3. In Windows Integration tab,choose Disable Always in Disable Windows Firewall.
