Issue/Introduction

When trying to run a reconfigure on a solution in Symantec Installation Manager (SIM) or when running aexconfig to set the SVCID credentials, there are errors in the logviewer and the configure operations fail.

You checked the services and found that all services were running, except the Altiris Service (AeXSvc) itself. This service was missing.

On the NS logs:

Failed in SetServiceCredential setting 'AeXSvc' service to use {APPID.EN_US}

Altiris.NS.Exceptions.SetIdentityException: Failed in SetServiceCredential setting 'AeXSvc' service

Failed to OpenService. Error=80070424.

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Cause

Failed upgrade appears to have deleted the Altiris Service for some unknown reason

Resolution

Run a repair on the Symantec Management Platform:

Repairing Notification Server/Symantec Management Platform products and solutions

Optional:

  1. Another way to create the service is to open a command prompt and CD into the c:\window\microsoft .NEt\framework_x64\v2.0.50727 folder
  2. and run installutil.exe "...\program files\altiris\notification server\bin\aexsvc.exe"

Make sure that any operations involving configuration type activities, such as upgrades, reconfigures, or solution installs, are run while logged in as the AppID or service account, and the Symantec Installation Manager (SIM) needs to be run with right-click and use the 'run as administrator' option. Command prompts should also be run as administrator.
