Issue/Introduction

An Symantec Endpoint Encryption admin would like to know more information about Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) protocol and Device Control 8.2.x.

Resolution

The Device Control Management Server communicates with client computers using WMI. WMI is an access mechanism that enables you to query, change, and monitor configuration settings on client computers. To interact with the Device Control Client systems, you must open the WMI port on the clients.

Once you have opened the WMI port on a client, confirm communication is successful by updating a policy or collecting logs.
