Symantec Email Submission Client (SESC) does not process email when Windows service is stopped

Issue/Introduction

You notice one of the following symptoms:

  • Email put into an email submission folder is never removed
  • The email submission folder is not recreated if the user deletes it.

Conditions

  • The Windows service Symantec Email Submission Client is stopped.

1. Open the services control panel by using Start Menu|Adminstrative Tools|Services.
2. If the Windows service Symantec Email Submission Client is not Started then this condition is met.

  • The following sequence of events appears on the Exchange Client Access Server (CAS):

NOTE that the error message contains the failure code ConnectFailure.

Event ID 5 is reported on the first failure, Event ID 6 is reported on subsequent failures.  Event ID 7 is reported when the subscription is removed.

 

 

Cause

The Windows service Symantec Email Submission Client processes the email submissions and creates Outlook folders.  Those functions do not occur if the service is not running.

Resolution

Start the Windows service Symantec Email Submission Client.
