Issue/Introduction

When trying to install the Symantec Management Agent on a machine (push, pull, or manual execution), the installation aborts with an error box containing the following:

Failed to load install script file. Install aborted. Error: error loading XML content: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported.

Entry in C:\Windows\AltirisAgentInstSvc.log:

Unable to create Altiris Agent object to set server. Error: (null). Error Code: 0x154

  

Cause

This behavior may occur if Microsoft's msxml3.dll has become unregistered. This dll is required to facilitate the unpacking and editing of xml contents during the agent installation process.

  

Resolution

1. Close the Symantec Agent Installation window if it is still open
     
2. Re-register msxml3.dll by going to:  Start > Run > enter: regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxml3.dll, and then click OK
     
3. Upon successful registration, a popup message saying, DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxml3.dll succeeded, should be displayed
     
4. Click OK

The Symantec Management Agent installation should now succeed.
