Issue/Introduction

With the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM), it is observed that the Microsoft SQL server hosting the SEPM database is using a large amount of memory.

Resolution

A high memory utilization with the Microsoft SQL server is not a performance issue. Memory will be released as it is required by other processes, and maximizing the size of the SQL server cache while memory is not required for other purposes leads to higher database performance.

Please see Microsoft KB 321363 for a detailed explanation of the intended behavior of the SQL Server buffer pool cache.
