Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

A list of internal domains are added into the list of internal domains in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE). The content filtering rules for inbound emails are no longer working as expected.

Cause

Adding *@example.com or @example.com in the list of internal domains causes SMSMSE to include the "@" or "*@" into the document name, for example, "@example.com" instead of "example.com".

SMSMSE will never be able to find inbound emails because the domain part of the recipient email address will never meet the syntax "@example.com" or "*@example.com". SMSMSE then treat every inbound email as "outbound". The content filtering rule for inbound emails" will never trigger.

Resolution

Remove the *@ or the @ before the domain name in the list of internal domains and deploy the settings.
