Issue/Introduction

PXE generates the following errors:

PXE-T05 ' unknown transfer ID '
PXE-E36 ' error received from the TFTP server '

Environment

GSS 3.x

DS 8.x

Cause

This could be caused by either of the following:

  1. Misconfigured DHCP options.
  2. Unsupported block size. What network device that may cause this is uncertain.

Resolution

Check the following:

  1. Add Option 60 to DHCP as outlined in KB article Creating and setting DHCP option 060 on a DHCP server, deleting existing options 66 and 67 on DHCP.
  2. Change Block Size
    1. Launch Deployment Console
    2. Click Tools > PXE Configuration
    3. Click the Multicast tab
    4. Change Packet Size to 768
    5. If this resolves the issue, increasing the packet size may improve performance. Increase a little at a time until the highest consistently working number is found.
