Issue/Introduction

Getting error: "PXEPreZero: Invalid PXE Server List Format" while attempting a PXE boot in DS.

Note that this error might occur on specific PXE Automation Menu Option.

PXEPreZero: Invalid PXE Server List Format

Environment

Deployment Solution 8.x

Cause

One of the boot options did not generate properly in the PXE server list.

In one situation the .0 file in affected Automation Menu Option was incorrectly named "dummy.0"  Located at ...\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler\SBS\Images\<ImageName>\x86PC\<ImageName>.0

A second situation, Option 43 info was configured but not getting passed from DHCP served by an InfoBlox device.

Resolution

If you experience a corrupt bootfile,

  1. Restart PXE Services.
  2. Rebuild affected PXE menu option by clicking the Regenerate Boot option in the PXE Boot options page.
  3. Once that's done, you need to run the Delta Resource Membership Update scheduled task, then go to your agent (on which server you want to update) and click Settings >  Update. This will cause bootwiz to build your configuration. You can see it working in task manager. Once this process disappears, you should be able to attempt a pxe boot once more.

If you have an InfoBlox device, see Configuring InfoBlox Appliance for PXE Forced Mode.  If still experiencing an issue, capture a network trace and review the DHCP offers provided from the InfoBlox services and see if any of the scope option information, such as Option 43, is missing from the packet. See sample below:

If any of this information is missing, consult the vendor for additional assistance.
