PGP Command Line

Issue/Introduction

When encrypting a file with PGP Command Line 9.x, file encryption fails with an licensing error. This error occurs even though the PGP Command Line license was previously authorized successfully.

Resolution

This issue can occur on systems running on VMware with VMotion. When PGP Command Line is licensed, the license is authorized to a specific processor on the system and if the virtual machine for PGP Command Line is moved by VMotion, the PGP license does not recognize the processor and displays the license as invalid.

Workaround(s)

  • Configure the processor affinity setting for the VMware machine to always use the same processor.
  • Create a script/batch file to re-license PGP Command Line each time a encryption/decryption

This issue is fixed in PGP Command Line 10.0 and above.
