Issue/Introduction

This article describes how to disable the PGP plug-in for GroupWise.

NOTE: This article is applicable only if you are running a version earlier than Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.1 and Symantec Encryption Management Server 3.3.1. Starting from Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.1 and Symantec Encryption Management Server 3.3.1, the PGP plug-in for GroupWise is disabled by default.

Resolution

The PGP Messaging proxy allows you to automatically encrypt email messages when using the POP/IMAP/SMTP protocols with GroupWise 6.5.1.

If you use GroupWise 6.5.1 with the proprietary protocol, you will not have automated messaging functionality. However, you can have the use of the PGP GroupWise plug-in that will provide limited functionality for encrypting plain text emails and attachments.

If you are using an unsupported version of GroupWise, you may disable the PGP GroupWise plug-in by unregistering the GroupWise pgpgw.dll. You may then use the option to encrypt messages using the Current Window or Clipboard by clicking the PGP Tray icon in the Windows System tray.

Unregister the GroupWise pgpgw.dll (Windows)

Before you begin, close your GroupWise mail client. Unregistering the GroupWise plug-in is done through a Windows Command Prompt as follows:

  1. Click the Start and select Run.
  2. Type cmd in the field provided and click OK to open the command prompt.
  3. Type cd\windows\system32 and press enter. You should now see the following screen:
  4. Type regsvr32 pgpgw.dll /u and press Enter.
  5. Type exit and press Enter to close the Command Prompt window.

You have now successfully unregistered the PGP GroupWise plug-in. You can now open your GroupWise mail client and the PGP plug-in will be removed from your GroupWise toolbar.
