Unable to Add New Passphrase User - This disk does not appear to have a valid volume

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to add a New Passphrase User for PGP Whole Disk Encryption, you receive the following error:

This disk does not appear to have a valid volume. PGP Whole Disk can only encrypt disks with at least one valid volume.

 

Resolution

This issue can occur on computers when the Intel Turbo Memory feature is enabled. This issue appears on Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems. Windows 7 is supported with versions of PGP Desktop 9.12 and higher. Currently PGP Desktop is not supported with the Intel Turbo Memory feature. This issue is fixed in PGP Desktop 10.

To resolve this issue, disable the Windows ReadyBoost and Windows ReadyDrive options in the Intel Turbo Memory Console.

To disable the Windows ReadyBoost and Windows ReadyDrive options

 

1. Click Start > All Programs > Intel Turbo Memory.
2. Select Intel Turbo Memory Console.
3. Remove the checkmark next to Windows ReadyBoost.
4. Remove the checkmark next to Windows ReadyDrive.
5. Close Intel Turbo Memory.
6. Reboot the system.

After rebooting the system, open PGP Desktop to create a new passphrase user to perform PGP Whole Disk Encryption.
