Issue/Introduction

This article details which versions of VMware are supported with PGP Encryption Server (Symantec Encryption Management Server).

Resolution

Symantec now supports any version of ESX that is currently supported by VMware.

For example, if VMware supports Debian 11 on ESX 8, then this will be supported by Symantec Encryption Engineering.
(PGP 11 currently runs on Debian 11)

PGP Encryption Server 11.5 - System Requirements

Note on HyperV: Starting with PGP Encryption Server version 11.0.1, Microsoft HyperV is now supported.
To obtain support with HyperV, update to version 11.0.1 or above.
Previous versions of PGP Encryption Server may run fun on HyperV, but are not officially supported until 11.0.1.

The following list is for historical purposes for older legacy versions of the PGP Encryption Server supported on the following versions of VMware:

VMware vMotion Support

Starting with PGP Universal Server 3.2.1 or Symantec Encryption Management Server 3.3.0 and newer provides support for VMware vMotion HA Configurations. VMware vMotion allows virtual machines on a failed ESX server to restart on another existing healthy ESX server.

Note: The BusLogic SCSI Adapter is no longer supported and configuring your virtual machine using it causes a partitioning error during installation. This error is detailed in the following article, 153546 - Error Partitioning: Could not allocate requested partitions... (Symantec Encryption Management Server).

Additional Notes

For VMWare vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) 5 with VMotion Support - Supported platform, non-hardware we recommend:

VMware HA Configuration: Host Monitoring - Enabled; VM Monitoring - Disabled;

Application Monitoring - Disabled VMware DRS Configuration: Migration Automation Level - Fully automated; Power Management Automation Level - Off; Migration Threshold - Apply all recommendations.
