Issue/Introduction

Keys are not being created for PGP Universal Server users.

Resolution

This can occur due to the key mode setting specified for the PGP Desktop policy. If users are created without PGP keys being generated, check the key mode settings for the PGP Desktop policy.

When a PGP Universal Server is placed into the mail flow, user accounts and keys are created when users send an outbound email. This issue can occur when a PGP Desktop client is not used to enroll the user and the SKM key mode is not selected for the policy.

Note: Server Key Mode (SKM) must be enabled if the PGP Universal Server has been deployed in a Gateway placement and PGP Desktop clients are not used.

To check client key mode settings

  1. Login to the PGP Universal Server administrative interface.
  2. Click Policy > Internal User Policy then select the desired policy.
  3. Click Edit next to Key Settings then select Management.
  4. Check if at least one key mode is allowed for clients.
  5. If no key modes are selected and PGP Desktop clients are not deployed, place a checkmark by Server Key Mode (SKM). When using PGP Desktop clients, select the desired key mode for your clients.
