Resolution

Upgrading Windows

Before upgrading to a newer version of the Windows operating system, perform the following to ensure the integrity of your data.

  1. Backup your PGP Keys.

Click here for more information on how to backup your PGP Keys.

  2. Backup any public keys you have imported to PGP Desktop.
  3. If your disk is PGP Whole Disk Encrypted, you will need to decrypt your disk.
  4. Make a backup of any PGP Virtual Disks.

Click here for more information on how to backup your PGP Virtual Disks.

  5. Uninstall PGP Desktop.

After upgrading your operating system, re-install PGP Desktop, import your keys, and restore any PGP Virtual Disks.

Applying Windows service packs or updates

Windows updates and service packs can be applied without decrypting your disk. However, it is always a good practice to backup your PGP keys and PGP Virtual Disks.
